EXAMINATION UNIT

Tasks and Targets

This Unit is aimed at conducting Central Examination for JS2 and SS3 students in the State Public Schools. This unit however, has planned and conducted this examination since its establishment in 2008. The unit is also aimed at conducting Modula Examination that will go across other classes for effective evaluations of subjects taught in our Schools.

The Unit targets on the nomination of teachers by their Principals, the training and clearing supervisors for the examinations (WAEC and NECO). This Unit in conjunction with other Examination bodies, monitors examination for effective supervision and invigilation. This Unit also generates fund into Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) account through WAEC clearance of candidates.

The Exams Unit geared towards collection and editing of questions and answers that make the question bank. The Unit collects result from Schools and especially the Continuous Assessment (CA) for WAEC and NECO candidates according to the WAEC directives.

The Examination Unit conducts training and retraining of teachers on examination ethics, integrity and technical skills for the conduct of credible examinations.

  5. Organizing Science, Vocational and Technical subjects quiz competition for students at the grass root, zonal and state levels.

  6. Taking students to National Competition on Science, Vocational and Technical related areas.

  7. Promoting experimentation, application of scientific and technological concepts in solving problems related to science and technology.

  8. Effectively harmonizing co-curricular outdoor activities with classroom and laboratory experience in the students thus, bridging the gap between theory and practical work.

  9. Re-enacting cultural values in our students through festival that is conducted every year and also the improvement of arts and Igbo language in the public Secondary Schools in the state.

  10. Any other duty as may be assigned by the Executive Secretary.

  1. Supervision of Science, Vocational and Technical subject teachers has improved the teaching and learning of the related subjects in Public Secondary Schools in the state.

  2. The Department has organized and conducted workshops in improved methods of teaching Mathematics for all Mathematics teachers in Secondary School System.

  3. The Department makes sure the Common Wealth Day is celebrated every 2nd Monday in the Month of March every year.

  4. The Department organizes the All Anambra Secondary School Art and Cultural Festival and Awards every year. This festival is for all Public Secondary Schools in the State. This year’s edition is in progress.

  5. The Department has organized Shell Cup Football Competition and Milo Basketball competition for all Public Secondary Schools in the state.

PLANNING, RESEARCH AND STATISTICS DEPARTMENT (PRSD)

Planning, Research and Statistics Department (PRSD) is one of the Departments in Secondary Education Management Board. It is responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies for regulating and supervising activities in the Board.

Units in the Department include:

  5. Quality Assurance

FUNCTION OF PRSD

  1. Collecting/collating and analyzing returns from Secondary Schools through the Zonal office.

  2. Coordinating the review and updates existing ICT and postal laws to ensure conformity with the best practices.

  3. Coordinating the preparation of SEMB’s development/annual work, plans and programmes in line with its mandate and in conjunction with other Departments and other sister parastatals.

  4. Conducting intervention studies in relevant issues pertaining to ICT as well as operational and management modalities if ICT sector within the establishement.

  5. Coordinating the formulation of policies that will create the adoption of ICT usage in the MDAS.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  1. PRSD has successfully rganized and coordinated Secondary Schools’ budget for 2021 calendar year.

  2. PRSD has defended its prepared/proposed 2021 Budget tagged “Budget of Local Content and Sustainable Development”.

  3. The Department has reengineered its staff for more efficient/ effective performance.

  4. PRSD with the Ministry of Education and ASUBEB conducted 2021 National Census.

FINANCE DEPARTMENT

CURRICULUM AND CAPACITY BUILDING (CCB) DEPARTMENT

FUNCTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT

  1. Organizing seminars on implementation of subjets’ scheme of work in Secondary Schools.

  2. Organizing workshops/seminar on some selected difficult concepts in the subject areas.

  3. Organizing quiz competitions in Schools when the need arises.

  4. Organizing debates on current and emerging issues involving entrepreneur and trade subjects.

  5. Monitoring the implemtnation of unified students’ scheme of work in Secondary Schools in the State.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF CCB DEPARTMENT

  1. Teachers have been taughte how to use the scheme of work for effective lesson delivery.

  2. Teachers have been introduced to the use of current teaching methods in various subjects and this has improved the quality of Education in the State.

  3. In-house training given to teachers for a three months period improved the quality of teaching and learning in public Secondary Schools in the State.

SCHOOL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

The School Services Department (SSD) is one of the major departments created to run certain functions of Secondary Educatio Management Board. As the name connotes, the Department is saddled with the overseeing of the secondary schools with the view to maintain standard and smooth running of the Anambra State Secondary Education Schools System.

FUNCTIONS OF SCHOOL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

Supervision of all secondary school through;

  1. Full management supervision

  2. Supervision of re-opening of schools

  3. On the spor supervision

  4. End of term exam supervision

  5. Conduct of investigation into reported problem case by the Principals.

  6. Monitoring of activities of Parents’ Teachers Association (PTA) and School Based Management Committee (SBMC) in Schools.

  7. Monitoring of guidance counseling work in the Schools.

  8. Supervision of clubs and societies in the School.

  9. Posting of Corp members posted to the Board and monitoring the activities of such Corp members.

  10. Nomination of Principals, teachers and schools for awards through the result of the supervision of exercises.

  11. Maintenance of Anambra State French Language Centre.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT

  1. Succesfful entranchment of the culture of supervision in the school system.

  2. Successful nomination for Teachers Excellence Award for 2018 and 2019 where Anambra State won in Teacher and Principal category respectfully.

  3. Inaugrated SBMC in over 70% of our Schools.

  4. Investigated and reported all cases brought to it.

  5. Settled disputes between members of staff and the School Administration for effective Management.

  6. Maintenance of cordial relationship with NYSC Secreatriat.

  7. Conducted monitoring for re-opening of exams classes in August, 2020 taking into consideration the Covid-19 protocols.

  8. Reported the areas of ned of various Schools to the Adminstration Department for effective rationalization of Teachers.

  9. Reported Schools wher the Principals have retired for the posting of new principals.

  10. Disciplined teachers who have in one way or the other showewd signs of professional misconduct.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF SECONDARY EDUCATION MANAGEMENT BOARD UNDER MR. CHRISTOPHER C. OSUAGWU

, the prsent Executive Secretary, Secondary Education Management Board took over the mantle of leadership of SEMB on August of 2020. On assumption of office, he held series of meetings with Senior Management, Top Management and other segments of the Board.

In these meetings, he intimated that the policy thrust of his administration will be aggressive and sustained supervisions of schools to ensure that teachers attend schools and teach their lessons. In this way, Public Schools will be established on a strong pedestal. Apart from this area, the Executive Secretary also indicated that he will concentrate in areas of infrastructural development and staff welfare.

IHardly had the Executive Secretary settled down in office than he swung into action. In the area supervision, tremendous achievements have ben made. To get action going, the Executive Secretary purchased.

  1. SEMB has maintained a back to back position of WAEC/SSCE for four (4) years in Nigeria.

  2. The Executive Secretary has repositioned the French Language Centre in SEMB for effective performance.

  3. The Executive Secretary reabsorbed over eight-six (86) years Principals of Junior Secondary Schools back to SEMB.

  4. He has maintained a very strong synergy between SEMB and ASUBEB towards ensuring a peaceful conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

  5. Postings of both Principals, Vice Principals and re-deployments of office staff.

  6. Successful implementation of 2020 annual staff promotion.

  7. Successful distribution of Covid-19 materials.

  8. Successful management/conduct of school on air during Covid-19.

  9. Inaugration of Board Members.

  10. Successful conduct of 2021 NECO.

  11. Approved Nominations of WASCE supervisors from public schools.

 

 

STAFF WELFARE

Mr. Christopher Osuagwu extends tremendous support to all staff associations of Secondary Education Management Board. He operates an open-door policy which makes members of staff to see him when in need. He does not withhold anything in assisting staff who are in distress.

Mr. Osuagwu is simple to a fault, but behind this simplicity is a solid personality, an astute adminstrators and veritable team player who carries everybody along.

Mr. Osuagwu, the Executive Secretary expresses his unreserved gratitude and pledges his unalloyed loyalty to the Education friendly Executive Governor of Anambra State, Okezie Victor Chibuikem Ikpeazu (Ph.D) for providing him with the enabling environment to make his modest achievements.
